Yesterday, I was walking through a schoolyard with my six year old daughter. As she fell behind, I heard myself call to her, as I always do "Come along, beautiful".
I heard a small, yet unfamiliar voice. It asked "Who is beautiful?"
Turning my head in an effort to locate the speaker, I see a group of children to my left. Unable to see the group clearly and see the children specifically, I stop and simply reply "Everyone".
At this point, a young man steps forward. He seems a little older than the children around him and has two younger siblings in tow. His bright smile glowed beyond his beautiful ebony skin. His reply was simple but it spoke volumes to me when he said "thank you."
I've known many men over the years. I have met many men who never grew to see the beauty of their own self. Many men are taught equate their self-worth with their achievements, their bank account, or the title on their business cards. That's a shame, isn't it?
The truth of the matter is that every human being is born special. We are not born with titles, degrees, or money. We are not born with fancy clothes, bank accounts, or fast cars. We are simply born our naked self: the creator must believe that is all that we truly need to succeed.
Remind your children that they are beautiful in their own right. It seems that they may not hear it enough.
