Honor that which is honorable.
.
Most assuredly, our creator wants us to honor our parents - but- remember, that only applies to that which is honorable.
.
Authority must be respectable and honorable in order to receive our honor, respect, and deference. Sometimes authority figures make mistakes or become overtaken by ego and ask others to comply to things that are obviously wrong. It is not uncommon in such circumstances to be told that one is committing the sin of dishonoring a parent while refusing to sin by acting as directed by a manipulative authority figure.
.
Complying with dishonorable tasks is not honor. We honor our parents in a greater fashion by acting out of the good that they taught us: we do not have to comply with tasks that do not fit into our spiritual and moral perspective in order to honor our parents.
